3D Printing SIG

Mobile Makerspace is bringing back the 3D Printing Special Interest Group.  This is our second meeting. We intend to have these meetings each month to plan ideas, workshops and events.

If you have or are thinking about getting a 3D printer, then this group is your local support guide. We intend for Mobile Makerspace to be the place in Mobile for 3D printing support needs for all enthusiasts, from beginner to advanced users. Here are just some of the things what we intend to offer:
– A repair shop with proper tools, and spare parts available for purchase. We intend to use the bulk purchasing power for discounted parts and supplies.
– Knowledgeable and inclusive group members that help each other learn how to properly use and maintain printers.
– Workshops and projects on 3D printing topics, such as custom builds, upgrades, hacking, 3D modeling, and more!

Our first meeting last month had 10 participants.  Interest seems to be OK.  Since the last meeting, we have tried working with a project to print Polycarbonate filament on the Prusa MK3, anneal it, and prepare it for a test of powder coating.  We also have a new E3D Hemera extruder to install on a Prusa MK3 printer.  The new printer parts have been printed and are ready to install.
