Mobile Makerspace is moving to a new location! #We need your help!

The board and members have #provisionally* decided to accept the offer to move to 805 Church street. This location is only 3 blocks from our current location in Downtown Mobile.

This location gives us 2350 square feet of room, which is split between two rooms. Both rooms are fully air conditioned and feature large roll-up doors. An ADA compliant bathroom is available.

Dirty room: Fabrication shop

The large room (20' x 80') will be the dirty area, and features a large walk-in paint booth. This area will be split into zones based on the activity. These zones will include the following activities:

  • Finishing zone
    • Includes tools/supplies for surface prep, painting, staining, cleaning, buffing, polishing
  • Woodworking zone
    • Includes tools/supplies for building and refurbishing projects
  • Fabrication zone (to be built)
    • Includes tools/supplies for fabrication with composites and vacuum forming
  • Metalworking zone (to be built)
    • Includes tools/supplies for working with sheet metal and welding
  • More activities will come as we build for the needs of the community

Clean room: Arts, crafts, electronics, and computer shop

The smaller room (20' x 40') will be the clean area. This area will also be split into zones based on activity. These zones will include the following activities:

  • Laser cutting and engraving
  • 3D Printing
  • Arts and crafts
  • Electronics and robotics
  • Computer lab
  • More activities will come as we build for the needs of the community

Provisions to moving

The board has created a budget to pay for the new location. The costs are more than our current income of membership dues. To compensate, we need more members. The board and the current members have agreed to a goal of recruiting 20 new members by August 19th, 2019 in order to ensure we can move forward. We have started our membership drive, and hope to exceed this goal.

We need your help!

Here is how you can get involved:

  • Become a member! We ask that you join as an associate member at a discount of $35 and fill out a commitment form. Once in the new location, you will become a full member. Beginning in your second month, that full member rate changes (see membership price list for details). Members receive a key for 24 x 7 access to the facility as well as voting rights and leadership opportunities. See the Membership webpage for details.
  • Become a sponsor! You or your group can sponsor a workshop, an activity, an event, a tool, a project, or even a member. Email us for details.
  • Make a tax-deductible donation! Mobile Makerspace is a 501c3 non-profit organization, and we need useful items such as tools and supplies for making things. Monetary funds will also be accepted! See our donation page for details.
  • Send us your ideas! The new facility will allow us to dive into new kinds of making. We seek individuals with particular interests and hobbies that you would like to share them with the community.
  • Become a workshop leader! Come help fill our events calendar with workshops by leading a community workshop that promotes your skills and knowledge, and increase your skills in other areas as you cross-train with other workshop leaders. Email us for details
  • Attend a workshop! Workshops are open to the public and are donation-based. Some workshops may require a fee for required materials and supplies. Seating may be limited, so be sure to reserve in advance. See Events page for details.
  • We need help moving all of our equipment! On moving day, we have a lot of equipment to move.

If you have been involved before, or if you have always wanted to get involved, now is the time to join! There are many new and exciting plans and growth opportunities with this new location, and we need help to fulfill them!

Mobile Makerspace is a 501c3 non-profit organization and is completely run by volunteers. We receive donations for equipment and supplies. However, it is our membership dues that keep the Makerspace running. We appreciate your consideration for joining our group of motivated makers. Donations of funds or equipment are welcome!

Please Email us for questions, comments, or ideas. If you have joined or “liked” anything we have posted on our social media sites, you will be receiving more information from us directly. We will continue posting new information here and on our social media sites when it becomes available.
