The Shop Is Back Open

Thank you for your understanding during our temporary closure, but we finally got the issue with our liability insurance provider corrected and the shop will be back open this coming week.

So make plans to come down to the space for a tour, demonstration or to get started on that project you’ve been itching to start!

Temporary Shop Closure

We apologize for any inconvenience, but due to an issue with our liability insurance provider, the Mobile Makerspace Board has determined it is in the best interest of the organization to temporarily refrain from opening the shop until the insurance issue has been settled.

Please know that this is being treated with the utmost urgency and will be settled as soon as possible.

Please check our website and social media accounts for updates as they become available. Also if you have any questions, please visit our Contact Us page and drop us a message and we will reply as soon as possible.

Mardi Gras Schedule Changes

It’s Mardi Gras time in Mobile and, being in the heart of downtown, the celebration also means it’s hard for our awesome hosts to open the shop during parade nights. Assume the shop is closed to visitors on parade nights. Feel free to use the Contact Us link to check shop availability or schedule an appointment.

These are open shop days that are affected by Mardi Gras parades.

  • Thursday, February 1
  • Friday, February 2
  • Monday, February 5
  • Tuesday, February 6
  • Thursday, February 8
  • Friday, February 9
  • Monday, February 12
  • Tuesday, February 13 (Mardi Gras Day)

But now is a great time to think about Making something for that special someone for Valentines day! Come down to the space on open days and lets make something!

Jointer and Planer Demo

Our woodworking guru, David L., will hold a jointer and planer demo after our monthly member meeting. He has some notes on picking stock to make the most of the demo:

Anyone who wants to practice with those machines after the demonstration would do well to bring some short lengths of 2 x 4. 24 inch long pieces would be good.

When selecting your stock, look for pieces with the fewest number of knots. Most home centers carry 2 x 4s in 2 or 3 slightly different pine species, kept in separate bins. Check all bins for the most knot free boards.

The meeting is Saturday April 29th 11am at Mobile Makerspace. Stick around for the demo!
